편지 쓰기, Writing Letters [ 고린도전서 3:1 - 3:6 ] - 찬송가 420 장
너희는 우리의 편지라 우리 마음에 썼고 뭇 사람이 알고 읽는 바라 (고린도후서 3:2 )

우리 어머니와 이모들은 점점 사라져가는 풍습인 편지쓰기를 열심히 하고 있습니다. 이들은 서로 변함없이 매주 편지를 쓰는데, 배달할 것이 없는 날에는 우편집배원이 무슨 일이 있는지 걱정할 정도입니다. 이들의 편지는 친구들과 가족들의 일상적인 일들을 포함해서 삶의 단편들, 기쁨과 가슴 아픈 일들로 가득 차 있습니다.
나는 우리 집안의 여자들이 이렇게 매주 편지하는 것을 즐겁게 생각합니다. 이는 바울 사도가 예수님을 따르는 자들을 향해 “너희는…그리스도의 편지니 이는 먹으로 쓴 것이 아니요 오직 살아 계신 하나님의 영으로 쓴 것”(고후 3:3)이라고 한 말을 이해하는 데 많은 도움이 됩니다. 바울은 그가 전하려는 말씀의 권위를 떨어뜨리려는 거짓 교사들에 대응하여(고후 11장 참조), 고린도에 있는 교인들에게 전에 그가 가르친 대로 참되고 살아계신 하나님을 계속 따르라고 권면했습니다. 그러면서 그는 신자들의 변화된 삶이야말로 바울의 사역 가운데 역사하시는 성령님을 그가 쓴 어떤 편지보다도 더 강력하게 증거하는 것이라며, 그들을 ‘그리스도의 편지’라고 하는 잊지 못할 표현을 사용하며 불렀습니다.
우리 안에 계시는 하나님의 영이 은혜와 구원의 이야기를 써 내려간다니 얼마나 놀라운 일인지요! 글로 쓴 편지도 아주 중요하지만, 복음의 진리를 가장 잘 전하는 것은 바로 우리의 삶입니다. 왜냐하면 우리는 삶을 통해 우리의 긍휼과 섬김, 감사와 기쁨을 큰소리로 알리기 때문입니다. 주님은 우리의 말과 행동을 통해 그분의 희생적인 사랑을 전하십니다. 당신은 오늘 어떤 메시지를 전하시겠습니까?

1. 형제들아 내가 신령한 자들을 대함과 같이 너희에게 말할 수 없어서 육신에 속한 자 곧 그리스도 안에서 어린 아이들을 대함과 같이 하노라
2. 내가 너희를 젖으로 먹이고 밥으로 아니하였노니 이는 너희가 감당하지 못하였음이거니와 지금도 못하리라
3. 너희는 아직도 육신에 속한 자로다 너희 가운데 시기와 분쟁이 있으니 어찌 육신에 속하여 사람을 따라 행함이 아니리요
4. 어떤 이는 말하되 나는 바울에게라 하고 다른 이는 나는 아볼로에게라 하니 너희가 육의 사람이 아니리요
5. 그런즉 아볼로는 무엇이며 바울은 무엇이냐 그들은 주께서 각각 주신 대로 너희로 하여금 믿게 한 사역자들이니라
6. 나는 심었고 아볼로는 물을 주었으되 오직 하나님께서 자라나게 하셨나니

Writing Letters [ 1 Corinthians 3:1 - 3:6 ] - hymn 420
You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone. (2 Corinthians 3:2)

My mother and her sisters engage in what is increasingly becoming a lost art form—writing letters. Each week they pen personal words to each other with such consistency that one of their mail-carriers worries when he doesn’t have something to deliver! Their letters brim with the stuff of life, the joys and heartaches along with the daily happenings of friends and family.
I love to reflect on this weekly exercise of the women in my family. It helps me appreciate even more the apostle Paul’s words that those who follow Jesus are “a letter from Christ,” who were “written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God”(2 Cor. 3:3). In response to false teachers who wanted to discredit his message(see 2 Cor. 11), Paul encouraged the church in Corinth to keep on following the true and living God as he had previously taught. In doing so, he memorably described the believers as Christ’s letter, with their transformed lives a more powerful witness to the Spirit working through Paul’s ministry than any written letter could be.
How wonderful that God’s Spirit in us writes a story of grace and redemption! For as meaningful as written words can be, it is our lives that are the best witness to the truth of the gospel, for they speak volumes through our compassion, service, gratitude, and joy. Through our words and actions, the Lord spreads His life-giving love. What message might you send today? —Amy Boucher Pye

* We are Christ’s letters.

1. Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly -- mere infants in Christ.
2. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.
3. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men?
4. For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not mere men?
5. What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe -- as the Lord has assigned to each his task.
6. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.
