다윗은 법궤를 두었던 오벧에돔의 집이 복을 받았다는 소식에 다시 법궤를 메고 예루살렘으로 옵니다. 다윗과 온 백성은 기뻐하지만 미갈은 불편한 기색을 숨기지 않습니다.

법궤의 예루살렘 입성과 춤추는 다윗 

12어떤 사람이 다윗 왕에게 아뢰어 이르되 여호와께서 하나님의 궤로 말미암아 오벧에돔의 집과 그의 모든 소유에 복을 주셨다 한지라 다윗이 가서 하나님의 궤를 기쁨으로 메고 오벧에돔의 집에서 다윗 성으로 올라갈새 13여호와의 궤를 멘 사람들이 여섯 걸음을 가매 다윗이 소와 살진 송아지로 제사를 드리고 14다윗이 여호와 앞에서 힘을 다하여 춤을 추는데 그 때에 다윗이 베 에봇을 입었더라 15다윗과 온 이스라엘 족속이 즐거이 환호하며 나팔을 불고 여호와의 궤를 메어오니라

 다윗을 업신여기는 미갈 

 16여호와의 궤가 다윗 성으로 들어올 때에 사울의 딸 미갈이 창으로 내다보다가 다윗 왕이 여호와 앞에서 뛰놀며 춤추는 것을 보고 심중에 그를 업신여기니라

 제사드리고 백성을 축복하는 다윗 

17여호와의 궤를 메고 들어가서 다윗이 그것을 위하여 친 장막 가운데 그 준비한 자리에 그것을 두매 다윗이 번제와 화목제를 여호와 앞에 드리니라 18다윗이 번제와 화목제 드리기를 마치고 만군의 여호와의 이름으로 백성에게 축복하고 19모든 백성 곧 온 이스라엘 무리에게 남녀를 막론하고 떡 한 개와 고기 한 조각과 건포도 떡 한 덩이씩 나누어 주매 모든 백성이 각기 집으로 돌아가니라

 다윗과 미갈의 충돌 

 20다윗이 자기의 가족에게 축복하러 돌아오매 사울의 딸 미갈이 나와서 다윗을 맞으며 이르되 이스라엘 왕이 오늘 어떻게 영화로우신지 방탕한 자가 염치 없이 자기의 몸을 드러내는 것처럼 오늘 그의 신복의 계집종의 눈앞에서 몸을 드러내셨도다 하니 21다윗이 미갈에게 이르되 이는 여호와 앞에서 한 것이니라 그가 네 아버지와 그의 온 집을 버리시고 나를 택하사 나를 여호와의 백성 이스라엘의 주권자로 삼으셨으니 내가 여호와 앞에서 뛰놀리라 22내가 이보다 더 낮아져서 스스로 천하게 보일지라도 네가 말한 바 계집종에게는 내가 높임을 받으리라 한지라 23그러므로 사울의 딸 미갈이 죽는 날까지 그에게 자식이 없으니라

12And it was told King David, “The LORD has blessed the household of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with rejoicing.13 And when those who bore the ark of the LORD had gone six steps, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened animal.14 And David danced before the LORD with all his might. And David was wearing a linen ephod.15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting and with the sound of the horn.16 As the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, and she despised him in her heart.17 And they brought in the ark of the LORD and set it in its place, inside the tent that David had pitched for it. And David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.18 And when David had finished offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts19 and distributed among all the people, the whole multitude of Israel, both men and women, a cake of bread, a portion of meat, and a cake of raisins to each one. Then all the people departed, each to his house.20 And David returned to bless his household. But Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, “How the king of Israel honored himself today, uncovering himself today before the eyes of his servants’ female servants, as one of the vulgar fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!”21 And David said to Michal, “It was before the LORD, who chose me above your father and above all his house, to appoint me as prince over Israel, the people of the LORD—and I will celebrate before the LORD.22 I will make myself yet more contemptible than this, and I will be abased in your eyes. But by the female servants of whom you have spoken, by them I shall be held in honor.”23 And Michal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

When David heard that God had blessed the household of Obed-edom, he moved the ark of God into the city of David with a joyful heart. This time, the ark was moved with great care by being slung across the shoulder in accordance with the regulations of the law. As the ark was brought into the city, David threw a great feast and rejoiced by dancing (vv. 12-15). Michal despised David’s unashamed dancing in public and criticised him. However, David responded by declaring that he would gladly abase himself for the sake of praising God and rebuked Michal. Because of this event, Michal never gave birth to a child (vv. 16-23). 

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 14, 21-22 David danced and praised God like a child. He was so joyful and thankful that he danced without concern for his kingly dignity. All people, from kings to servants, are children before God. Let’s spend today singing and dancing with pure joy as we meditate on God’s grace. 

Vv. 16, 20 Michal did not share David and Israel’s joy. She watched from afar and mocked their mindset. Like those who ‘do not dance despite hearing the playing of the flute’ (Matt. 11:17), she merely watched the coming of God as a spectator. Are you moved by worship and your meditation on the Word? If your heart is numb, what must you do to restore it? 

Prayer

Lord, help me to be thankful and dance joyfully today with the pureness of a child.
