1 그 땅의 백성이 요시야의 아들 여호아하스를 세워 그의 아버지를 대신하여 예루살렘에서 왕으로 삼으니

2 여호아하스가 왕위에 오를 때에 나이가 이십삼 세더라 그가 예루살렘에서 다스린 지 석 달에

3 애굽 왕이 예루살렘에서 그의 왕위를 폐하고 또 그 나라에 은 백 달란트와 금 한 달란트를 벌금으로 내게 하며

4 애굽 왕 느고가 또 그의 형제 엘리아김을 세워 유다와 예루살렘 왕으로 삼고 그의 이름을 고쳐 여호야김이라 하고 그의 형제 여호아하스를 애굽으로 잡아갔더라

5 여호야김이 왕위에 오를 때에 나이가 이십오 세라 예루살렘에서 십일 년 동안 다스리며 그의 하나님 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하였더라

6 바벨론 왕 느부갓네살이 올라와서 그를 치고 그를 쇠사슬로 결박하여 바벨론으로 잡아가고

7 느부갓네살이 또 여호와의 전 기구들을 바벨론으로 가져다가 바벨론에 있는 자기 신당에 두었더라

8 여호야김의 남은 사적과 그가 행한 모든 가증한 일들과 그에게 발견된 악행이 이스라엘과 유다 열왕기에 기록되니라 그의 아들 여호야긴이 대신하여 왕이 되니라

9 여호야긴이 왕위에 오를 때에 나이가 팔 세라 예루살렘에서 석달 열흘 동안 다스리며 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하였더라

10 그 해에 느부갓네살 왕이 사람을 보내어 여호야긴을 바벨론으로 잡아가고 여호와의 전의 귀한 그릇들도 함께 가져가고 그의 숙부 시드기야를 세워 유다와 예루살렘 왕으로 삼았더라

11 시드기야가 왕위에 오를 때에 나이가 이십일 세라 예루살렘에서 십일 년 동안 다스리며

12 그의 하나님 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하고 선지자 예레미야가 여호와의 말씀으로 일러도 그 앞에서 겸손하지 아니하였으며

13 또한 느부갓네살 왕이 그를 그의 하나님을 가리켜 맹세하게 하였으나 그가 왕을 배반하고 목을 곧게 하며 마음을 완악하게 하여 이스라엘 하나님 여호와께로 돌아오지 아니하였고

14 모든 제사장들의 우두머리들과 백성도 크게 범죄하여 이방 모든 가증한 일을 따라서 여호와께서 예루살렘에 거룩하게 두신 그의 전을 더럽게 하였으며

15 그 조상들의 하나님 여호와께서 그의 백성과 그 거하시는 곳을 아끼사 부지런히 그의 사신들을 그 백성에게 보내어 이르셨으나

16 그의 백성이 하나님의 사신들을 비웃고 그의 말씀을 멸시하며 그의 선지자를 욕하여 여호와의 진노를 그의 백성에게 미치게 하여 회복할 수 없게 하였으므로

17 하나님이 갈대아 왕의 손에 그들을 다 넘기시매 그가 와서 그들의 성전에서 칼로 청년들을 죽이며 청년 남녀와 노인과 병약한 사람을 긍휼히 여기지 아니하였으며

18 또 하나님의 전의 대소 그릇들과 여호와의 전의 보물과 왕과 방백들의 보물을 다 바벨론으로 가져가고

19 또 하나님의 전을 불사르며 예루살렘 성벽을 헐며 그들의 모든 궁실을 불사르며 그들의 모든 귀한 그릇들을 부수고

20 칼에서 살아 남은 자를 그가 바벨론으로 사로잡아가매 무리가 거기서 갈대아 왕과 그의 자손의 노예가 되어 바사국이 통치할 때까지 이르니라

21 이에 토지가 황폐하여 땅이 안식년을 누림 같이 안식하여 칠십 년을 지냈으니 여호와께서 예레미야의 입으로 하신 말씀이 이루어졌더라

22 바사의 고레스 왕 원년에 여호와께서 예레미야의 입으로 하신 말씀을 이루시려고 여호와께서 바사의 고레스 왕의 마음을 감동시키시매 그가 온 나라에 공포도 하고 조서도 내려 이르되

23 바사 왕 고레스가 이같이 말하노니 하늘의 신 여호와께서 세상 만국을 내게 주셨고 나에게 명령하여 유다 예루살렘에 성전을 건축하라 하셨나니 너희 중에 그의 백성된 자는 다 올라갈지어다 너희 하나님 여호와께서 함께 하시기를 원하노라 하였더라

요약: 요시야가 죽은 후 왕위에 오른 네 왕은 모두 하나님 보시기에 악을 행합니다. 유다는 결국 바벨론에 의해 멸망하나, 하나님은 유다를 버리지 않으십니다.

하나님은 어떤 분입니까?

12, 15-16절   하나님은 예레미야 같은 선지자들을 ‘부지런히’ 보내셔서 거듭 경고하셨지만, 유다 백성은 선지자를 조롱하고 하나님의 말씀을 무시하며 돌이키질 않습니다. 유다의 왕과 백성이 선지자의 경고에 귀 기울였다면 역사는 달랐을 것입니다. 말씀을 묵상할 때 위로가 되는 말씀뿐만 아니라 책망하고 꾸짖는 말씀도 주목해야 합니다. 오늘날 우리에게는 경고의 말씀이 더 시급한지도 모릅니다.17-21절   안식과 샬롬을 위해 땅을 주셨습니다. 하나님이 주신 땅에서 악을 행하던 유다는 결국 바벨론 군대에게 무참히 짓밟혀, 성전이 불에 타고 성벽도 허물어졌으며, 왕과 백성이 포로로 끌려갔습니다. 그들이 포로로 잡혀간 70년 동안 그들이 더럽힌 땅은 비로소 안식했습니다. 바벨론 포로생활은 심판의 성격도 있지만 땅을 정화하는 회복의 성격도 있습니다. 안식과 평화를 위해 주신 땅에서 착취하고 사람을 학대했기에 하나님이 땅을 빼앗으신 것입니다. 하나님이 주신 터전에서 평화로이 지내는 방법은 하나님의 뜻을 따라 안식과 샬롬의 하나님 나라를 세우는 것입니다.22-23절   자기 백성과 맺은 언약을 결코 저버리지 않으십니다. 포로로 끌려가 다 끝난 것 같은 상황에서, 다시 유다로 돌아와 성전을 재건한 귀환 공동체는 하나님의 언약과 은혜가 지속되고 있음을 보여 주는 확실한 증거였습니다. 지금 우리가 하나님의 백성으로 존재하는 것 자체가 언약과 은혜의 증거입니다. 이 언약은 의심의 여지없이 영원히 우리를 하나님의 은혜로 이끌 것입니다.

내게 주시는 교훈은 무엇입니까?

1-14절   유다 왕국의 새로운 영적 부흥을 이끌던 요시야가 죽고 난 후, 유다는 급격히 쇠락해져 갑니다. 요시야의 뒤를 이어 왕위에 오른 여호아하스, 여호야김, 여호야긴, 시드기야는 모두 하나같이 하나님 보시기에 악을 행하다가 애굽이나 바벨론의 포로로 잡혀갑니다. 여호와 보시기에 악을 저질러서라도 무엇이든 얻어 보려 했지만 결국 다 잃었습니다. ‘하나님 보시기에 악한 삶’은 결국 비극이 됩니다.

기도

공동체-경고의 말씀에 귀 기울이되, 하나님의 은혜를 의심하지 않게 하소서.

1The people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah and made him king in his father's place in Jerusalem.2 Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign, and he reigned three months in Jerusalem.3 Then the king of Egypt deposed him in Jerusalem and laid on the land a tribute of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.4 And the king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. But Neco took Jehoahaz his brother and carried him to Egypt.5 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD his God.6 Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and bound him in chains to take him to Babylon.7 Nebuchadnezzar also carried part of the vessels of the house of the LORD to Babylon and put them in his palace in Babylon.8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and the abominations that he did, and what was found against him, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. And Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place.9 Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem. He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD.10 In the spring of the year King Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon, with the precious vessels of the house of the LORD, and made his brother Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem.11 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem.12 He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD his God. He did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, who spoke from the mouth of the LORD.13 He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar, who had made him swear by God. He stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the LORD, the God of Israel.14 All the officers of the priests and the people likewise were exceedingly unfaithful, following all the abominations of the nations. And they polluted the house of the LORD that he had made holy in Jerusalem.15 The LORD, the God of their fathers, sent persistently to them by his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place.16 But they kept mocking the messengers of God, despising his words and scoffing at his prophets, until the wrath of the LORD rose against his people, until there was no remedy.17 Therefore he brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion on young man or virgin, old man or aged. He gave them all into his hand.18 And all the vessels of the house of God, great and small, and the treasures of the house of the LORD, and the treasures of the king and of his princes, all these he brought to Babylon.19 And they burned the house of God and broke down the wall of Jerusalem and burned all its palaces with fire and destroyed all its precious vessels.20 He took into exile in Babylon those who had escaped from the sword, and they became servants to him and to his sons until the establishment of the kingdom of Persia,21 to fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had enjoyed its Sabbaths. All the days that it lay desolate it kept Sabbath, to fulfill seventy years.22 Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled, the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing:23 “Thus says Cyrus king of Persia, ‘The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth, and he has charged me to build him a house at Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever is among you of all his people, may the LORD his God be with him. Let him go up.’”

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

After Josiah came Jehoahaz, Jehoiakim, Jehoiachin, and Zedekiah. All of them did evil in God’s sight and were eventually taken captive to Egypt or Babylon. The prophet Jeremiah warned people to accept God's judgment and surrender to Babylon (Jer. 27:12), but Zedekiah disobeyed and resisted. In the end, Babylon destroyed Jerusalem and took the king and his people into captivity. After seventy years, God moved the heart of Cyrus, king of Persia, to issue a decree allowing the people of Judah to return to their homeland and rebuild the temple (vv. 1-23).

요시야의 뒤를 이어 왕위에 오른 여호아하스, 여호야김, 여호야긴, 시드기야는 하나같이 하나님 앞에서 악을 행하다가 이집트나 바빌로니아의 포로로 잡혀갔습니다. 예레미야는 하나님의 심판을 수용하고 바빌로니아에게 항복해야 한다는 하나님의 뜻을 전하지만(렘 27:12), 시드기야는 순종하지 않고 바빌로니아에 대항합니다. 결국 바빌로니아는 예루살렘을 멸망시키고, 왕과 백성을 포로로 끌고 갑니다. 70년이 지나 하나님은 페르시아 왕 고레스의 마음을 움직여 유다 백성을 본국으로 돌려보내고, 성전을 재건하도록 명하는 조서를 내리게 하셨습니다(1-23절).

Who is God?Vv. 22-23 

God never breaks the covenant he makes with his people. The return of the people to Judah and the rebuilding of the temple stands as evidence that God's covenant and grace continue to manifest in and through his people. The very fact that we exist as God's people is testament of his covenantal grace.

자기 백성과 맺은 언약을 결코 저버리지 않으십니다. 다 끝난 것 같은 상황에서, 다시 유다로 돌아와 성전을 재건한 귀환 공동체는 하나님의 언약과 은혜가 지속되고 있다는 것을 보여 주는 확실한 증거였습니다. 우리가 하나님의 백성으로 존재하는 것 자체가 언약과 은혜의 증거입니다.

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 14-16 A people that despise and mock the Word have no hope. The people of Judah rejected their last chance for redemption by mocking God's messenger and ignoring his warnings. Today, alarm bells ring in many places, warning of disaster and judgment. Let us heed those warnings and take God's call to repentance seriously.

말씀을 멸시하고 조롱하는 공동체에는 소망이 없습니다. 유다 백성은 하나님의 사신을 비웃고 말씀을 멸시함으로 마지막 기회마저 걷어차 버립니다. 지금 우리 시대에 재앙을 알리는 경종이 이곳저곳에서 울리고 있습니다. 하나님이 주시는 경고를 무겁게 받아들입시다.

Dear God, help us to listen to your words of warning while holding on to your grace.
