1 요담이 왕위에 오를 때에 나이가 이십오 세라 예루살렘에서 십육 년 동안 다스리니라 그의 어머니의 이름은 여루사요 사독의 딸이더라

2 요담이 그의 아버지 웃시야의 모든 행위대로 여호와 보시기에 정직하게 행하였으나 여호와의 성전에는 들어가지 아니하였고 백성은 여전히 부패하였더라

3 그가 여호와의 전 윗문을 건축하고 또 오벨 성벽을 많이 증축하고

4 유다 산중에 성읍들을 건축하며 수풀 가운데에 견고한 진영들과 망대를 건축하고

5 암몬 자손의 왕과 더불어 싸워 그들을 이겼더니 그 해에 암몬 자손이 은 백 달란트와 밀 만 고르와 보리 만 고르를 바쳤고 제이년과 제삼년에도 암몬 자손이 그와 같이 바쳤더라

6 요담이 그의 하나님 여호와 앞에서 바른 길을 걸었으므로 점점 강하여졌더라

7 요담의 남은 사적과 그의 모든 전쟁과 행위는 이스라엘과 유다 열왕기에 기록되니라

2 이스라엘 왕들의 길로 행하여 바알들의 우상을 부어 만들고

3 또 힌놈의 아들 골짜기에서 분향하고 여호와께서 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 쫓아내신 이방 사람들의 가증한 일을 본받아 그의 자녀들을 불사르고

4 또 산당과 작은 산 위와 모든 푸른 나무 아래에서 제사를 드리며 분향하니라

5 그러므로 그의 하나님 여호와께서 그를 아람 왕의 손에 넘기시매 그들이 쳐서 심히 많은 무리를 사로잡아 다메섹으로 갔으며 또 이스라엘 왕의 손에 넘기시매 그가 쳐서 크게 살륙하였으니

6 이는 그의 조상들의 하나님 여호와를 버렸음이라 르말랴의 아들 베가가 유다에서 하루 동안에 용사 십이만 명을 죽였으며

7 에브라임의 용사 시그리는 왕의 아들 마아세야와 궁내대신 아스리감과 총리대신 엘가나를 죽였더라

8 이스라엘 자손이 그들의 형제 중에서 그들의 아내와 자녀를 합하여 이십만 명을 사로잡고 그들의 재물을 많이 노략하여 사마리아로 가져가니

9 그 곳에 여호와의 선지자가 있는데 이름은 오뎃이라 그가 사마리아로 돌아오는 군대를 영접하고 그들에게 이르되 너희 조상의 하나님 여호와께서 유다에게 진노하셨으므로 너희 손에 넘기셨거늘 너희의 노기가 충천하여 살륙하고

10 이제 너희가 또 유다와 예루살렘 백성들을 압제하여 노예로 삼고자 생각하는도다 그러나 너희는 너희의 하나님 여호와께 범죄함이 없느냐

11 그런즉 너희는 내 말을 듣고 너희의 형제들 중에서 사로잡아 온 포로를 놓아 돌아가게 하라 여호와의 진노가 너희에게 임박하였느니라 한지라

12 에브라임 자손의 우두머리 몇 사람 곧 요하난의 아들 아사랴와 무실레못의 아들 베레갸와 살룸의 아들 여히스기야와 하들래의 아들 아마사가 일어나서 전장에서 돌아오는 자들을 막으며

13 그들에게 이르되 너희는 이 포로를 이리로 끌어들이지 못하리라 너희가 행하는 일이 우리를 여호와께 허물이 있게 함이니 우리의 죄와 허물을 더하게 함이로다 우리의 허물이 이미 커서 진노하심이 이스라엘에게 임박하였느니라 하매

14 이에 무기를 가진 사람들이 포로와 노략한 물건을 방백들과 온 회중 앞에 둔지라

15 이 위에 이름이 기록된 자들이 일어나서 포로를 맞고 노략하여 온 것 중에서 옷을 가져다가 벗은 자들에게 입히며 신을 신기며 먹이고 마시게 하며 기름을 바르고 그 약한 자들은 모두 나귀에 태워 데리고 종려나무 성 여리고에 이르러 그의 형제에게 돌려준 후에 사마리아로 돌아갔더라

요약: 요담은 하나님 앞에서 바른길을 걸으며 점점 강해졌으나, 아하스는 이방의 역겨운 풍습을 본받고 하나님을 버리면서 혹독한 일을 겪습니다.

하나님은 어떤 분입니까?

1-9절   인생의 모든 행사를 살피시고 공정하게 평가하십니다. 요담은 하나님 보시기에 정직히 행했고 하나님 앞에서 바른길을 걸었습니다. 하나님은 그런 요담에게 전쟁에서의 승리를 주셨고 점점 더 강해지는 은혜를 주셨습니다. 우리는 인간의 행사를 면밀히 살피시고 그에 따라 공정하게 평가하시는 하나님의 임재를 기억하며 살아야 합니다. ‘하나님 앞에서’(Coram Deo) 살아가고 있음을 안다면 우리의 말과 행실에는 하나님의 자녀다움이 더 많이 묻어날 수 있을 것입니다.28:1-7   우상숭배를 가증하게 여기십니다. 다메섹과 이스라엘의 침략으로 유다의 많은 이들이 죽고 사로잡혀 간 이유는 우상숭배입니다. 그들은 바알을 부어 만들고 힌놈의 아들 골짜기에서 분향하며, 자녀들을 불사르고 산당 곳곳에서 이방 신에게 제사함으로 하나님을 떠나 추악한 죄에 갇히게 되었습니다. 하나님의 혹독한 심판은 그 죄에 따른 마땅한 결과였습니다. 우리에게 하나님보다 더 사랑하는 것이 없는지, 하나님이 정하신 한계 이상의 것을 가지려는 탐욕은 없는지 돌아봅시다.

내게 주시는 교훈은 무엇입니까?

2절   요담은 그의 부친 웃시야가 성전에서 분향하다가 하나님의 심판을 받은 사건이 두려워 감히 성전에 출입하지 못했습니다. 실수로 인한 형벌이 무서워, 성전을 통한 은혜와 복마저 누리지 못한 것입니다. 성전을 멀리한 지도자와 부패함에서 벗어나지 못한 백성의 모습은 예배와 삶의 관계를 보여 줍니다. 예배를 통해 하나님과의 관계를 바르고 친밀하게 유지할 때, 우리 삶도 정결하고 아름다울 수 있습니다.28:8-15   이스라엘 군대는 유다 백성을 노예로 삼으려고 포로로 끌고 왔습니다. 그때 사마리아의 선지자 오뎃이 나서서, 유다 백성이 그들의 ‘형제’이며, 그들을 노예로 삼는 일이 죄임을 일깨웠습니다. 이 말을 들은 이스라엘 군대와 지도자들은 포로들을 입히고 먹이고 치료한 후에 돌려보냈습니다. 다른 집단을 혐오하고 배척하는 자세를 지양하고 관용하는 마음을 지닙시다. 하나님이 받으신 사람을 적으로 간주하고 정죄하는 일 없도록 조심합시다.

Jotham and Ahaz Reign 요담과 아하스의 통치

Summing up[ 2 Chronicles 27:1 - 28:15 ](Hymn516)1Jotham was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jerushah the daughter of Zadok.2 And he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD according to all that his father Uzziah had done, except he did not enter the temple of the LORD. But the people still followed corrupt practices.3 He built the upper gate of the house of the LORD and did much building on the wall of Ophel.4 Moreover, he built cities in the hill country of Judah, and forts and towers on the wooded hills.5 He fought with the king of the Ammonites and prevailed against them. And the Ammonites gave him that year100 talents of silver, and10,000 cors of wheat and10,000 of barley. The Ammonites paid him the same amount in the second and the third years.6 So Jotham became mighty, because he ordered his ways before the LORD his God.7 Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars and his ways, behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah.8 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem.9 And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David, and Ahaz his son reigned in his place.25 :1Ahaz was twenty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD, as his father David had done,2 but he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel. He even made metal images for the Baals,3 and he made offerings in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom and burned his sons as an offering, according to the abominations of the nations whom the LORD drove out before the people of Israel.4 And he sacrificed and made offerings on the high places and on the hills and under every green tree.5 Therefore the LORD his God gave him into the hand of the king of Syria, who defeated him and took captive a great number of his people and brought them to Damascus. He was also given into the hand of the king of Israel, who struck him with great force.6 For Pekah the son of Remaliah killed120,000 from Judah in one day, all of them men of valor, because they had forsaken the LORD, the God of their fathers.7 And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, killed Maaseiah the king's son and Azrikam the commander of the palace and Elkanah the next in authority to the king.8 The men of Israel took captive200,000 of their relatives, women, sons, and daughters. They also took much spoil from them and brought the spoil to Samaria.9 But a prophet of the LORD was there, whose name was Oded, and he went out to meet the army that came to Samaria and said to them, “Behold, because the LORD, the God of your fathers, was angry with Judah, he gave them into your hand, but you have killed them in a rage that has reached up to heaven.10 And now you intend to subjugate the people of Judah and Jerusalem, male and female, as your slaves. Have you not sins of your own against the LORD your God?11 Now hear me, and send back the captives from your relatives whom you have taken, for the fierce wrath of the LORD is upon you.”12 Certain chiefs also of the men of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against those who were coming from the war13 and said to them, “You shall not bring the captives in here, for you propose to bring upon us guilt against the LORD in addition to our present sins and guilt. For our guilt is already great, and there is fierce wrath against Israel.”14 So the armed men left the captives and the spoil before the princes and all the assembly.15 And the men who have been mentioned by name rose and took the captives, and with the spoil they clothed all who were naked among them. They clothed them, gave them sandals, provided them with food and drink, and anointed them, and carrying all the feeble among them on donkeys, they brought them to their kinsfolk at Jericho, the city of palm trees. Then they returned to Samaria.

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

King Jotham did what was right in the eyes of God and grew stronger (27:1-9). His successor, Ahaz, took a very different path: he made metal images for the Baals and even sacrificed his own son as an offering. Because Judah abandoned God, he handed them over to Syria and Israel. Meanwhile, the Israelite army and leaders obeyed God by listening to the prophet Oded, who instructed them to treat the captive people of Judah as brothers and sisters. After clothing, feeding, and caring of them, they sent them back to their own land (28:1-15).요담왕은 하나님 앞에서 바른길을 걷고 점점 강해졌습니다(27:1-9). 이어 왕이 된 아하스는 아버지 요담과 정반대로 행동합니다. 북이스라엘의 바알 우상을 들여와 섬기고, 심지어 자기 아들을 우상 제물로 바칩니다. 이렇게 유다가 하나님을 버리자 하나님은 유다를 시리아와 이스라엘 손에 넘기셨습니다. 한편, 이스라엘 군대와 지도자들은 포로들을 형제자매로 여겨야 한다는 예언자 오뎃의 말을 듣고, 포로들을 입히고 먹이고 치료한 후에 돌려보냈습니다(28:1-15).Who is God?27:3-9 God strengthened Jotham, who did what was right in God’s eyes. Therefore, he was prosperous throughout his reign. The nation’s borders were fortified, and they received tribute from the Ammonites. In this way, God shows his faithfulness to those who remain faithful to him (cf. 2 Sam. 22:27; Ps. 18:26).

하나님 앞에서 바른 길을 걸은 요담을 강하게 하시고, 그가 통치하는 내내 번영이 지속되게 하십니다. 영토 수비가 강화되고, 요단강 너머 암몬으로부터 조공을 받기도 합니다. 이렇듯 하나님은 그분께 신실한 자들에게 그분의 신실함을 보여 주실 것입니다(참조. 삼하 22:27; 시 18:26).

What lesson is God teaching me?

27:1-28:15 There is no neutral ground on the path of faith. Any path other than the Lord's is a path of evil. Trying to stand with one foot on each side is the same as refusing to walk in the Lord's way. Do not be afraid or hesitate—walk steadfastly on the path of faith.

믿음의 길에 중립지대는 없습니다. 주님의 길로 가지 않는 한 악한 길입니다. 양쪽에 두 발을 다 걸치는 건 주님의 길로 안 가겠다는 것과 다름없습니다. 두려워하거나 주춤거리지 말고 믿음의 길로 뚜벅뚜벅 걸어가십시오.
