14 무리가 여호와의 전에 헌금한 돈을 꺼낼 때에 제사장 힐기야가 모세가 전한 여호와의 율법책을 발견하고

15 힐기야가 서기관 사반에게 말하여 이르되 내가 여호와의 전에서 율법책을 발견하였노라 하고 힐기야가 그 책을 사반에게 주매

16 사반이 책을 가지고 왕에게 나아가서 복명하여 이르되 왕께서 종들에게 명령하신 것을 종들이 다 준행하였나이다

17 또 여호와의 전에서 발견한 돈을 쏟아서 감독자들과 일꾼들에게 주었나이다 하고

18 서기관 사반이 또 왕에게 아뢰어 이르되 제사장 힐기야가 내게 책을 주더이다 하고 사반이 왕 앞에서 그것을 읽으매

19 왕이 율법의 말씀을 듣자 곧 자기 옷을 찢더라

20 왕이 힐기야와 사반의 아들 아히감과 미가의 아들 압돈과 서기관 사반과 왕의 시종 아사야에게 명령하여 이르되

21 너희는 가서 나와 및 이스라엘과 유다의 남은 자들을 위하여 이 발견한 책의 말씀에 대하여 여호와께 물으라 우리 조상들이 여호와의 말씀을 지키지 아니하고 이 책에 기록된 모든 것을 준행하지 아니하였으므로 여호와께서 우리에게 쏟으신 진노가 크도다 하니라

22 이에 힐기야와 왕이 보낸 사람들이 여선지자 훌다에게로 나아가니 그는 하스라의 손자 독핫의 아들로서 예복을 관리하는 살룸의 아내라 예루살렘 둘째 구역에 살았더라 그들이 그에게 이 뜻을 전하매

23 훌다가 그들에게 이르되 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 너희는 너희를 내게 보낸 사람에게 말하라 하시니라

24 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 내가 이 곳과 그 주민에게 재앙을 내리되 곧 유다 왕 앞에서 읽은 책에 기록된 모든 저주대로 하리니

25 이는 이 백성들이 나를 버리고 다른 신들에게 분향하며 그의 손의 모든 행위로 나의 노여움을 샀음이라 그러므로 나의 노여움을 이 곳에 쏟으매 꺼지지 아니하리라 하라 하셨느니라

26 너희를 보내어 여호와께 묻게 한 유다 왕에게는 너희가 이렇게 전하라 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 이같이 말씀하시기를 네가 들은 말을 의논하건대

27 내가 이 곳과 그 주민을 가리켜 말한 것을 네가 듣고 마음이 연약하여 하나님 앞 곧 내 앞에서 겸손하여 옷을 찢고 통곡하였으므로 나도 네 말을 들었노라 여호와가 말하였느니라

28 그러므로 내가 네게 너의 조상들에게 돌아가서 평안히 묘실로 들어가게 하리니 내가 이 곳과 그 주민에게 내리는 모든 재앙을 네가 눈으로 보지 못하리라 하셨느니라 이에 사신들이 왕에게 복명하니라

29 왕이 사람을 보내어 유다와 예루살렘의 모든 장로를 불러 모으고

30 여호와의 전에 올라가매 유다 모든 사람과 예루살렘 주민들과 제사장들과 레위 사람들과 모든 백성이 노소를 막론하고 다 함께 한지라 왕이 여호와의 전 안에서 발견한 언약책의 모든 말씀을 읽어 무리의 귀에 들려 주고

31 왕이 자기 처소에 서서 여호와 앞에서 언약을 세우되 마음을 다하고 목숨을 다하여 여호와를 순종하고 그의 계명과 법도와 율례를 지켜 이 책에 기록된 언약의 말씀을 이루리라 하고

32 예루살렘과 베냐민에 있는 자들이 다 여기에 참여하게 하매 예루살렘 주민이 하나님 곧 그의 조상들의 하나님의 언약을 따르니라

33 이와 같이 요시야가 이스라엘 자손에게 속한 모든 땅에서 가증한 것들을 다 제거하여 버리고 이스라엘의 모든 사람으로 그들의 하나님 여호와를 섬기게 하였으므로 요시야가 사는 날에 백성이 그들의 조상들의 하나님 여호와께 복종하고 떠나지 아니하였더라

요약: 성전을 수리하던 중 모세의 율법책을 발견합니다. 율법책으로 인해 영적 각성이 일어나고 하나님께 순종할 것을 다짐하는 언약 체결식이 거행됩니다.

하나님은 어떤 분입니까?

23-28절   말씀의 뜻을 묻는 요시야에게 하나님은 훌다를 통해 두 가지를 말씀하십니다. 하나는 “유다 백성이 언약을 어겼으니, 언약책에 기록된 재앙을 내릴 것이다”이고, 다른 하나는 그럼에도 불구하고 “요시야는 겸손하여 옷을 찢고 통곡했으므로, 그가 살아 있는 동안엔 재앙을 내리지 않겠다”입니다. 이처럼 하나님은 온유하고 자비하십니다. 주님의 뜻을 묻고 잘못을 돌이키기에 늦은 때는 없습니다.

내게 주시는 교훈은 무엇입니까?

14-19절   성전을 수리하다가 모세의 율법책을 발견합니다. 요시야는 사반이 읽어 주는 율법의 말씀을 듣고 애통하며 옷을 찢습니다. 이스라엘과 유다 백성이 하나님과 맺은 언약을 어겼고, 그로 인해 받게 될 하나님의 진노(저주)가 크다는 것을 깨달았기 때문입니다(참조. 신 28:15-68). 우리 죄를 지적하고 책망하는 말씀 앞에 설 때, 무시함으로 말씀을 찢지 말고(렘 36:23), 애꿎은 다른 사람의 옷도 찢지 말며, 요시야가 자기 옷을 찢듯이 자기 마음을 찢어야 합니다(욜 2:13). 찢긴 마음 사이로 용서와 은혜가 스며들어 올 것입니다.20-22절   요시야는 언약을 어긴 경우에 받을 진노에 관해 기록된 율법을 듣고 당황했습니다. 이 말씀의 참 뜻이 무엇인지, 이 말씀에 담긴 하나님의 의중이 무엇인지 알기 위해 예언자 훌다에게 사람을 보내어 묻습니다. 말씀을 더 정확히 알고 싶고, 말씀이 요구하는 삶을 배우고 싶어서였습니다. 깊고 넓은 하나님의 말씀을 제대로 알려면, 변혁을 낳는 말씀의 능력을 힘입으려면 말씀을 더 힘써 배워야 합니다.27-33절   요시야는 자신이 재앙을 면한다는 말씀을 듣고, 하나님이 뉘우치는 사람을 용서하신다는 것을 깨닫습니다. 그래서 모든 백성을 성전으로 불러 모으고 그들에게 언약의 말씀을 들려주며, 하나님과 언약을 맺게 했습니다. 백성을 살리려는 마음으로 한 일입니다. 내가 살게 된 것으로 만족하지 말고, 다른 사람도 살려야 합니다. 하나님의 용서와 구원을 받았다면, 다른 사람도 나처럼 되기를 바라며 구원의 길로 안내해야 마땅합니다(참조. 왕하 7:9).

14While they were bringing out the money that had been brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the LORD given through Moses.15 Then Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the secretary, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the LORD.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan.16 Shaphan brought the book to the king, and further reported to the king, “All that was committed to your servants they are doing.17 They have emptied out the money that was found in the house of the LORD and have given it into the hand of the overseers and the workmen.”18 Then Shaphan the secretary told the king, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read from it before the king.19 And when the king heard the words of the Law, he tore his clothes.20 And the king commanded Hilkiah, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Abdon the son of Micah, Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying,21 “Go, inquire of the LORD for me and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that has been found. For great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do according to all that is written in this book.”22 So Hilkiah and those whom the king had sent went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter) and spoke to her to that effect.23 And she said to them, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,24 Thus says the LORD, Behold, I will bring disaster upon this place and upon its inhabitants, all the curses that are written in the book that was read before the king of Judah.25 Because they have forsaken me and have made offerings to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands, therefore my wrath will be poured out on this place and will not be quenched.26 But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the LORD, thus shall you say to him, Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel: Regarding the words that you have heard,27 because your heart was tender and you humbled yourself before God when you heard his words against this place and its inhabitants, and you have humbled yourself before me and have torn your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard you, declares the LORD.28 Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes shall not see all the disaster that I will bring upon this place and its inhabitants.’” And they brought back word to the king.29 Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.30 And the king went up to the house of the LORD, with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the priests and the Levites, all the people both great and small. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the LORD.31 And the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.32 Then he made all who were present in Jerusalem and in Benjamin join in it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.33 And Josiah took away all the abominations from all the territory that belonged to the people of Israel and made all who were present in Israel serve the LORD their God. All his days they did not turn away from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

While repairing the temple, the Book of the Law of the Lord was discovered. Upon hearing its words, Josiah realised that the people of Israel and Judah had broken their covenant with God, and that God’s wrath and curse would be severe. In mourning, he tore his clothes. The king then sent for the prophetess Huldah to seek God’s guidance. The Lord promised that although Judah would face judgment, he would spare them during Josiah’s reign because of Josiah’s humility before him. King Josiah gathered the people of Judah, proclaimed the covenant’s words to them, and led them in making a renewed covenant before God (vv. 14-33).

Who is God?

Vv. 20-28 God clearly answered Josiah's question and showed mercy to those who repented and turned to him. When God saw Josiah weeping before him, he promised not to bring disaster upon Josiah during his lifetime. Because God is so gentle and merciful, let us always bring our questions before him and seek him wholeheartedly.

뜻을 구하는 요시야에게 밝히 답하시고, 통회하며 회개하는 자에게 긍휼을 베푸십니다. 요시야가 하나님 앞에서 통곡하는 것을 보시고 그가 사는 날 동안에는 재앙을 내리지 않겠다고 약속하십니다. 이처럼 온유하고 자비하신 분이니, 언제라도 묻고 구하며 주께로 돌이킵시다.

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 27-33 We should not be satisfied with our own salvation but strive to help save others. When Josiah learned he would be spared from disaster because he responded to the words of the covenant in repentance, he did not stop there. Instead, he shared the words of the covenant with all the people and led them to enter into a covenant with God so that they might also be saved. If there are members from your church who have strayed from the Word and their faith, let us strive to help them return to the Lord.

내가 살게 된 것으로 만족하지 말고 다른 사람을 살리려 힘써야 합니다. 요시야는 언약의 말씀에 반응한 자신이 재앙을 면한다는 말씀을 듣고, 온 백성을 살리려고 그들에게 언약의 말씀을 들려주며 하나님과 언약을 맺게 했습니다. 말씀과 믿음에서 벗어난 지체가 있다면, 주님께 돌아갈 수 있도록 힘써 도웁시다.
