하나님은 레위 지파의 각 가문별로 30-50세의 인구를 조사하라고 명령하시며, 그들에게 맡기실 직무를 설명하십니다. 

[ 민수기 4:1 - 4:33 ] (찬송212장)

1또 여호와께서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하여 이르시되 2레위 자손 중에서 고핫 자손을 그들의 종족과 조상의 가문에 따라 집계할지니 3곧 삼십 세 이상으로 오십 세까지 회막의 일을 하기 위하여 그 역사에 참가할 만한 모든 자를 계수하라 4고핫 자손이 회막 안의 지성물에 대하여 할 일은 이러하니라 5진영이 전진할 때에 아론과 그의 아들들이 들어가서 칸 막는 휘장을 걷어 증거궤를 덮고 6그 위를 해달의 가죽으로 덮고 그 위에 순청색 보자기를 덮은 후에 그 채를 꿰고 7진설병의 상에 청색 보자기를 펴고 대접들과 숟가락들과 주발들과 붓는 잔들을 그 위에 두고 또 항상 진설하는 떡을 그 위에 두고 8홍색 보자기를 그 위에 펴고 그것을 해달의 가죽 덮개로 덮은 후에 그 채를 꿰고 9청색 보자기를 취하여 등잔대와 등잔들과 불 집게들과 불똥 그릇들과 그 쓰는 바 모든 기름 그릇을 덮고 10등잔대와 그 모든 기구를 해달의 가죽 덮개 안에 넣어 메는 틀 위에 두고 11금제단 위에 청색 보자기를 펴고 해달의 가죽 덮개로 덮고 그 채를 꿰고 12성소에서 봉사하는 데에 쓰는 모든 기구를 취하여 청색 보자기에 싸서 해달의 가죽 덮개로 덮어 메는 틀 위에 두고 13제단의 재를 버리고 그 제단 위에 자색 보자기를 펴고 14봉사하는 데에 쓰는 모든 기구 곧 불 옮기는 그릇들과 고기 갈고리들과 부삽들과 대야들과 제단의 모든 기구를 두고 해달의 가죽 덮개를 그 위에 덮고 그 채를 꿸 것이며 15진영을 떠날 때에 아론과 그의 아들들이 성소와 성소의 모든 기구 덮는 일을 마치거든 고핫 자손들이 와서 멜 것이니라 그러나 성물은 만지지 말라 그들이 죽으리라 회막 물건 중에서 이것들은 고핫 자손이 멜 것이며 16제사장 아론의 아들 엘르아살이 맡을 것은 등유와 태우는 향과 항상 드리는 소제물과 관유이며 또 장막 전체와 그 중에 있는 모든 것과 성소와 그 모든 기구니라 17여호와께서 또 모세와 아론에게 말씀하여 이르시되 18너희는 고핫 족속의 지파를 레위인 중에서 끊어지게 하지 말지니 19그들이 지성물에 접근할 때에 그들의 생명을 보존하고 죽지 않게 하기 위하여 이같이 하라 아론과 그의 아들들이 들어가서 각 사람에게 그가 할 일과 그가 멜 것을 지휘하게 할지니라 20그들은 잠시라도 들어가서 성소를 보지 말라 그들이 죽으리라

 21여호와께서 또 모세에게 말씀하여 이르시되 22게르손 자손도 그 조상의 가문과 종족에 따라 계수하되 23삼십 세 이상으로 오십 세까지 회막에서 복무하고 봉사할 모든 자를 계수하라 24게르손 종족의 할 일과 멜 것은 이러하니 25곧 그들이 성막의 휘장들과 회막과 그 덮개와 그 위의 해달의 가죽 덮개와 회막 휘장 문을 메며 26뜰의 휘장과 성막과 제단 사방에 있는 뜰의 휘장 문과 그 줄들과 그것에 사용하는 모든 기구를 메며 이 모든 것을 이렇게 맡아 처리할 것이라 27게르손 자손은 그들의 모든 일 곧 멜 것과 처리할 것을 아론과 그의 아들들의 명령대로 할 것이니 너희는 그들이 멜 짐을 그들에게 맡길 것이니라 28게르손 자손의 종족들이 회막에서 할 일은 이러하며 그들의 직무는 제사장 아론의 아들 이다말이 감독할지니라

 29너는 므라리 자손도 그 조상의 가문과 종족에 따라 계수하되 30삼십 세부터 오십 세까지 회막에서 복무하고 봉사할 모든 자를 계수하라 31그들이 직무를 따라 회막에서 할 모든 일 곧 그 멜 것은 이러하니 곧 장막의 널판들과 그 띠들과 그 기둥들과 그 받침들과 32뜰 둘레의 기둥들과 그 받침들과 그 말뚝들과 그 줄들과 그 모든 기구들과 그것에 쓰는 모든 것이라 너희는 그들이 맡아 멜 모든 기구의 품목을 지정하라 33이는 제사장 아론의 아들 이다말의 수하에 있을 므라리 자손의 종족들이 그 모든 직무대로 회막에서 행할 일이니라

[ Numbers 4:1 - 4:33 ]

1The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,2 “Take a census of the sons of Kohath from among the sons of Levi, by their clans and their fathers’ houses,3 from thirty years old up to fifty years old, all who can come on duty, to do the work in the tent of meeting.4 This is the service of the sons of Kohath in the tent of meeting: the most holy things.5 When the camp is to set out, Aaron and his sons shall go in and take down the veil of the screen and cover the ark of the testimony with it.6 Then they shall put on it a covering of goatskin and spread on top of that a cloth all of blue, and shall put in its poles.7 And over the table of the bread of the Presence they shall spread a cloth of blue and put on it the plates, the dishes for incense, the bowls, and the flagons for the drink offering; the regular showbread also shall be on it.8 Then they shall spread over them a cloth of scarlet and cover the same with a covering of goatskin, and shall put in its poles.9 And they shall take a cloth of blue and cover the lampstand for the light, with its lamps, its tongs, its trays, and all the vessels for oil with which it is supplied.10 And they shall put it with all its utensils in a covering of goatskin and put it on the carrying frame.11 And over the golden altar they shall spread a cloth of blue and cover it with a covering of goatskin, and shall put in its poles.12 And they shall take all the vessels of the service that are used in the sanctuary and put them in a cloth of blue and cover them with a covering of goatskin and put them on the carrying frame.13 And they shall take away the ashes from the altar and spread a purple cloth over it.14 And they shall put on it all the utensils of the altar, which are used for the service there, the fire pans, the forks, the shovels, and the basins, all the utensils of the altar; and they shall spread on it a covering of goatskin, and shall put in its poles.15 And when Aaron and his sons have finished covering the sanctuary and all the furnishings of the sanctuary, as the camp sets out, after that the sons of Kohath shall come to carry these, but they must not touch the holy things, lest they die. These are the things of the tent of meeting that the sons of Kohath are to carry.16 “And Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest shall have charge of the oil for the light, the fragrant incense, the regular grain offering, and the anointing oil, with the oversight of the whole tabernacle and all that is in it, of the sanctuary and its vessels.”17 The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,18 “Let not the tribe of the clans of the Kohathites be destroyed from among the Levites,19 but deal thus with them, that they may live and not die when they come near to the most holy things: Aaron and his sons shall go in and appoint them each to his task and to his burden,20 but they shall not go in to look on the holy things even for a moment, lest they die.”21 The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,22 “Take a census of the sons of Gershon also, by their fathers’ houses and by their clans.23 From thirty years old up to fifty years old, you shall list them, all who can come to do duty, to do service in the tent of meeting.24 This is the service of the clans of the Gershonites, in serving and bearing burdens:25 they shall carry the curtains of the tabernacle and the tent of meeting with its covering and the covering of goatskin that is on top of it and the screen for the entrance of the tent of meeting26 and the hangings of the court and the screen for the entrance of the gate of the court that is around the tabernacle and the altar, and their cords and all the equipment for their service. And they shall do all that needs to be done with regard to them.27 All the service of the sons of the Gershonites shall be at the command of Aaron and his sons, in all that they are to carry and in all that they have to do. And you shall assign to their charge all that they are to carry.28 This is the service of the clans of the sons of the Gershonites in the tent of meeting, and their guard duty is to be under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.29 “As for the sons of Merari, you shall list them by their clans and their fathers’ houses.30 From thirty years old up to fifty years old, you shall list them, everyone who can come on duty, to do the service of the tent of meeting.31 And this is what they are charged to carry, as the whole of their service in the tent of meeting: the frames of the tabernacle, with its bars, pillars, and bases,32 and the pillars around the court with their bases, pegs, and cords, with all their equipment and all their accessories. And you shall list by name the objects that they are required to carry.33 This is the service of the clans of the sons of Merari, the whole of their service in the tent of meeting, under the direction of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest.” 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

God decided the duties of each clan in relation to moving the tent of meeting. The Kohathites are mentioned first because they handled the most important task. They were responsible for maintaining and moving the vessels of the sanctuary, which included the ark of the testimony (vv. 1-21). The Gershonites were entrusted with the task of maintaining the covering of the tent of meeting (cloth, covering and curtains). The sons of Merari were responsible for maintaining the core frame of the tent of meeting (bars, pillars and bases) and the external objects around the court (the surrounding pillars, bases, cords) (vv. 22-33). 

Who is God?

Vv. 15-20 The sons of Gershon needed to be careful not to besmirch holiness. Holiness is glorious and fearsome. Remember that those with more responsibilities are judged more severely. Let’s faithfully and carefully carry out our duties by remembering the impact they can have on us and our community.  

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 1-33 Everybody has a burden they must carry. Do you volunteer to take on the tasks that the rest of the community is reluctant to handle? Do you believe that the duties that you have been entrusted with, whatever they may be, are the greatest blessing that results from a relationship with God? Rather than yearning for higher and more important positions, let’s first consider how much ability and preparation is required for those positions.

Lord, help me not to lose my holiness but to faithfully manifest it.
