이해하시는 분 [ 요한복음 1:1 - 1:18 ] - 찬송가 86 장
말씀이 육신이 되어 우리 가운데 거하시매 (요한복음 1:14)

존 베이블러는 텍사스 한 지역의 경찰서와 소방서를 담당하는 목사입니다. 22주 동안의 안식 기간을 얻은 그는 경찰관들이 직면하는 상황들을 더 잘 이해해 보려고 경찰학교의 훈련과정에 참가했습니다. 다른 간부 후보생들과 함께 하며 이들의 직업이 얼마나 어려운 것인지를 알게 되면서, 베이블러는 겸손한 마음과 깊은 이해심을 새롭게 갖게 되었습니다. 앞으로 그는 정신적인 스트레스와 피곤과 상실로 고통 받는 경찰관들을 좀 더 잘 상담할 수 있기를 기대하고 있습니다.
우리는 하나님께서 우리를 만드셨고 우리의 모든 일을 보고 계시기 때문에 우리가 당면하는 상황들을 이해하신다는 것을 알고 있습니다. 또 주님은 이 땅에 오셔서 인간의 몸을 입고 사셨기 때문에 우리를 이해하신다는 것을 압니다. 주님은 예수 그리스도라는 인격으로 “육신이 되어 우리 가운데 거하셨습니다”(요 1:14).
예수님은 이 땅에 사시며 여러 가지 어려움을 겪으셨습니다. 주님은 태양의 뜨거운 열기와 배고픔의 고통과 집 없는 불안감도 다 느끼셨습니다. 감정적으로는 거절의 아픔과 쓰라린 배신과 끊이지 않는 폭력의 위협을 견뎌내셨습니다.
예수님은 우리가 세상에서 겪는 가장 어려운 문제뿐만 아니라, 친구의 우정과 가족의 사랑이 가져다주는 기쁨도 경험하셨습니다. 주님은 희망을 주십니다. 주님은 통찰력과 사랑으로 우리의 걱정을 끝까지 들어주시는 최고의 상담자이십니다(사 9:6). 주님은 “나도 다 경험했어. 내가 이해한단다.”라고 말씀하실 수 있는 분이십니다.

• 사랑하는 주님, 우리를 사랑하셔서 몸소 비천하게 되어 인간의 몸으로 이 땅에 오신 것을 감사합니다.

* 하나님은 우리가 겪는 문제들을 이해하신다.

1. 태초에 말씀이 계시니라 이 말씀이 하나님과 함께 계셨으니 이 말씀은 곧 하나님이시니라
2. 그가 태초에 하나님과 함께 계셨고
3. 만물이 그로 말미암아 지은 바 되었으니 지은 것이 하나도 그가 없이는 된 것이 없느니라
4. 그 안에 생명이 있었으니 이 생명은 사람들의 빛이라
5. 빛이 어둠에 비치되 어둠이 깨닫지 못하더라
6. 하나님께로부터 보내심을 받은 사람이 있으니 그의 이름은 요한이라
7. 그가 증언하러 왔으니 곧 빛에 대하여 증언하고 모든 사람이 자기로 말미암아 믿게 하려 함이라
8. 그는 이 빛이 아니요 이 빛에 대하여 증언하러 온 자라
9. 참 빛 곧 세상에 와서 각 사람에게 비추는 빛이 있었나니
10. 그가 세상에 계셨으며 세상은 그로 말미암아 지은 바 되었으되 세상이 그를 알지 못하였고
11. 자기 땅에 오매 자기 백성이 영접하지 아니하였으나
12. 영접하는 자 곧 그 이름을 믿는 자들에게는 하나님의 자녀가 되는 권세를 주셨으니
13. 이는 혈통으로나 육정으로나 사람의 뜻으로 나지 아니하고 오직 하나님께로부터 난 자들이니라
14. 말씀이 육신이 되어 우리 가운데 거하시매 우리가 그의 영광을 보니 아버지의 독생자의 영광이요 은혜와 진리가 충만하더라
15. 요한이 그에 대하여 증언하여 외쳐 이르되 내가 전에 말하기를 내 뒤에 오시는 이가 나보다 앞선 것은 나보다 먼저 계심이라 한 것이 이 사람을 가리킴이라 하니라
16. 우리가 다 그의 충만한 데서 받으니 은혜 위에 은혜러라
17. 율법은 모세로 말미암아 주어진 것이요 은혜와 진리는 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 온 것이라
18. 본래 하나님을 본 사람이 없으되 아버지 품 속에 있는 독생하신 하나님이 나타내셨느니라


The One Who Understands
[ John 1:1 - 1:18 ] - hymn 86
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. (John 1:14)

John Babler is the chaplain for the police and fire departments in his Texas community. During a twenty-two-week sabbatical from his job, he attended police academy training so that he could better understand the situations law enforcement officers face. Through spending time with the other cadets and learning about the intense challenges of the profession, Babler gained a new sense of humility and empathy. In the future, he hopes to be more effective as he counsels police officers who struggle with emotional stress, fatigue, and loss.
We know that God understands the situations we face because He made us and sees everything that happens to us. We also know He understands because He has been to earth and experienced life as a human being. He “became flesh and made his dwelling among us” as the person of Jesus Christ (John 1:14).
Jesus’s earthly life included a wide range of difficulty. He felt the searing heat of the sun, the pain of an empty stomach, and the uncertainty of homelessness. Emotionally, He endured the tension of disagreements, the burn of betrayal, and the ongoing threat of violence.
Jesus experienced the joys of friendship and family love, as well as the worst problems that we face here on earth. He provides hope. He is the Wonderful Counselor who patiently listens to our concerns with insight and care (Isa. 9:6). He is the One who can say, “I’ve been through that. I understand.” —Jennifer Benson Schuldt

• Dear Lord, thank You for caring enough to humble Yourself and come to earth as a human being. I
know You understand everything in my life. I give my worries to You.

* God understands the struggles we face.

1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2. He was with God in the beginning.
3. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
4. In him was life, and that life was the light of men.
5. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.
6. There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John.
7. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe.
8. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.
10. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.
11. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
12. Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God --
13. children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
14. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15. John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.'"
16. From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.
17. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18. No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.
