하나님은 이스라엘이 두 마음을 품고 하나님과 우상을 겸하여 섬기며 번영과 풍요를 도리어 죄악의 기회로 삼은 것을 심판하겠다고 경고하십니다. 

[ 호세아 10:1 - 10:15 ] (찬송409장)

1이스라엘은 열매 맺는 무성한 포도나무라 그 열매가 많을수록 제단을 많게 하며 그 땅이 번영할수록 주상을 아름답게 하도다 2그들이 두 마음을 품었으니 이제 벌을 받을 것이라 하나님이 그 제단을 쳐서 깨뜨리시며 그 주상을 허시리라 3그들이 이제 이르기를 우리가 여호와를 두려워하지 아니하므로 우리에게 왕이 없거니와 왕이 우리를 위하여 무엇을 하리요 하리로다

 4그들이 헛된 말을 내며 거짓 맹세로 언약을 세우니 그 재판이 밭이랑에 돋는 독초 같으리로다 5사마리아 주민이 벧아웬의 송아지로 말미암아 두려워할 것이라 그 백성이 슬퍼하며 그것을 기뻐하던 제사장들도 슬퍼하리니 이는 그의 영광이 떠나감이며 6그 송아지는 앗수르로 옮겨다가 예물로 야렙 왕에게 드리리니 에브라임은 수치를 받을 것이요 이스라엘은 자기들의 계책을 부끄러워할 것이며 7사마리아 왕은 물 위에 있는 거품 같이 멸망할 것이며 8이스라엘의 죄 곧 아웬의 산당은 파괴되어 가시와 찔레가 그 제단 위에 날 것이니 그 때에 그들이 산더러 우리를 가리라 할 것이요 작은 산더러 우리 위에 무너지라 하리라

 9이스라엘아 네가 기브아 시대로부터 범죄하더니 지금까지 죄를 짓는구나 그러니 범죄한 자손들에 대한 전쟁이 어찌 기브아에서 일어나지 않겠느냐 10내가 원하는 때에 그들을 징계하리니 그들이 두 가지 죄에 걸릴 때에 만민이 모여서 그들을 치리라

 11에브라임은 마치 길들인 암소 같아서 곡식 밟기를 좋아하나 내가 그의 아름다운 목에 멍에를 메우고 에브라임 위에 사람을 태우리니 유다가 밭을 갈고 야곱이 흙덩이를 깨뜨리리라 12너희가 자기를 위하여 공의를 심고 인애를 거두라 너희 묵은 땅을 기경하라 지금이 곧 여호와를 찾을 때니 마침내 여호와께서 오사 공의를 비처럼 너희에게 내리시리라 13너희는 악을 밭 갈아 죄를 거두고 거짓 열매를 먹었나니 이는 네가 네 길과 네 용사의 많음을 의뢰하였음이라

 14그러므로 너희 백성 중에 요란함이 일어나며 네 산성들이 다 무너지되 살만이 전쟁의 날에 벧아벨을 무너뜨린 것 같이 될 것이라 그 때에 어머니와 자식이 함께 부서졌도다 15너희의 큰 악으로 말미암아 벧엘이 이같이 너희에게 행하리니 이스라엘 왕이 새벽에 정녕 망하리로다

하나님은 어떤 분입니까?

2절   두 마음을 용납하지 않으십니다. 이스라엘이 두 마음을 품게 된 것은 가나안 땅에 정착한 이후 이제는 ‘전쟁의 신’이 아니라, ‘풍요의 신’이 필요하다고 느끼면서부터였습니다. 그래서 택한 것이 바알입니다. ‘질투하시는 하나님’(출 20:5)은 이를 두고 보지 않으십니다. 두 마음을 품은 자를 징계하시고, 엘리야를 통해 보여주신 ‘갈멜산에서의 기적’(왕상 18장)처럼 사신 하나님과 죽은 우상을 반드시 판가름 내십니다. 나는 세상의 부와 명예와 권력을 뒤로하고 나뉘지 않은 마음으로 하나님만을 섬깁니까(수 24:15)?

내게주시는교훈은무엇입니까?

1,7,8절   이스라엘은 무성한 포도나무와 같이 풍요를 누렸습니다. 하지만 풍요의 원인을 오해한 까닭에 우상을 위한 제단과 주상을 세웠고 그것들을 섬겼습니다. 이를 불쾌하게 여기신 하나님은 이스라엘에 징계를 예고하시고 그들의 풍요가 거품같이 사라지며, 번영했던 이스라엘이 파괴될 것이라고 하십니다. 생사화복의 근원이 하나님이시라는 본질을 잃은 채 풍요와 번영이라는 눈앞의 껍데기에 치중한 이스라엘은 부푼 거품과 같습니다. 풍요로움이 커질수록 더 빨리 사라질 뿐입니다.

9,10절   기브아 시대의 끔찍한 범죄(삿 19,20장)가 호세아 시대에 반복되고 있습니다. 약자를 짓밟고 이웃을 탐욕의 대상으로 여기며, 불의를 감추고 폭력을 휘두르는 상태에서 조금도 나아지지 않았습니다. 그때 이스라엘 모든 지파가 모여 베냐민 지파를 쳤듯이(삿 20:11), 이제 만민이 모여 이스라엘을 칠 것입니다. 공의와 인애가 사라진 사회의 결말은 처참함입니다. 우리가 사는 세상은 기브아 시대보다 더 공의롭고 자애로운 사회가 되었습니까? 

11-15절   이스라엘은 악으로 밭을 갈고 죄를 거두어 거짓 열매로 배불렀습니다. 육신의 풍요만을 좇은 결과입니다. 그런 이스라엘에게 다가올 미래는 ‘무너지고 부서지며’ ‘망하는 일’뿐입니다. 그들은 묵은 땅을 기경하듯 옛 삶을 청산하고, 공의를 심고 인애를 거두어야 합니다. 내 삶에 기경하고 새로운 삶을 뿌려야 하는 묵은 땅은 무엇입니까?

[ Hosea 10:1 - 10:15 ]

1Israel is a luxuriant vine that yields its fruit. The more his fruit increased, the more altars he built; as his country improved, he improved his pillars.2 Their heart is false; now they must bear their guilt. The LORD will break down their altars and destroy their pillars.3 For now they will say: “We have no king, for we do not fear the LORD; and a king—what could he do for us?”4 They utter mere words; with empty oaths they make covenants; so judgment springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field.5 The inhabitants of Samaria tremble for the calf of Beth-aven. Its people mourn for it, and so do its idolatrous priests— those who rejoiced over it and over its glory— for it has departed from them.6 The thing itself shall be carried to Assyria as tribute to the great king. Ephraim shall be put to shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his idol.7 Samaria’s king shall perish like a twig on the face of the waters.8 The high places of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed. Thorn and thistle shall grow up on their altars, and they shall say to the mountains, “Cover us,” and to the hills, “Fall on us.”9 From the days of Gibeah, you have sinned, O Israel; there they have continued. Shall not the war against the unjust overtake them in Gibeah?10 When I please, I will discipline them, and nations shall be gathered against them when they are bound up for their double iniquity.11 Ephraim was a trained calf that loved to thresh, and I spared her fair neck; but I will put Ephraim to the yoke; Judah must plow; Jacob must harrow for himself.12 Sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love; break up your fallow ground, for it is the time to seek the LORD, that he may come and rain righteousness upon you.13 You have plowed iniquity; you have reaped injustice; you have eaten the fruit of lies. Because you have trusted in your own way and in the multitude of your warriors,14 therefore the tumult of war shall arise among your people, and all your fortresses shall be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel on the day of battle; mothers were dashed in pieces with their children.15 Thus it shall be done to you, O Bethel, because of your great evil. At dawn the king of Israel shall be utterly cut off. 

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

The people of Israel were initially fruitful, but they started to bear bad fruit by mixing their worship of God with that of a golden calf, which God abhorred. Therefore, the Lord would soon tear down the pillars and altars Israel had built for their idols (vv. 1-8). God had repeatedly urged them to “sow for yourselves righteousness; reap steadfast love,” but Israel had continued in their sin and rebellion, trusting in their military and economic powers instead. Now, they would be crushed by Assyria, who had a more powerful army and greater wealth than them. The king of Israel and his family would die a gruesome death (vv. 9-15).

이스라엘 백성들은 처음에는 열매를 풍성하게 맺었지만 거짓된 마음으로 하나님과 금송아지 우상을 함께 섬겨 하나님이 싫어하시는 나쁜 열매를 많이 맺게 되었습니다. 하나님은 이스라엘이 우상을 위해 세운 기둥과 제단들을 모조리 무너뜨리실 것입니다(1-8절). 하나님은 계속해서 “정의를 뿌리고 사랑의 열매를 거두라”고 촉구하셨지만, 이스라엘은 군사력과 경제력만을 믿고 죄악과 반역을 거듭 이어왔습니다. 이제 그들은 더 막강한 군대와 부를 소유한 앗시리아에게 처참히 무너질 것입니다. 이스라엘 왕과 가족들은 끔찍한 죽음을 맞이할 것입니다(9-15절).

Who is God?

11-13a God yokes His people to teach them a lesson (Matt. 11:30). Israel has sown the seeds of iniquity and eaten the fruit of lies; now the only way for them to live is by plowing the worn-out ground, sowing the seeds of righteousness, and reaping the fruit of love. God will rain down righteousness on the obedient, not the unrighteous.

주의 백성에게 멍에를 메우고 배우게 하십니다(마 11:30). 이스라엘은 죄악의 씨를 뿌려 거짓의 열매를 먹었습니다. 이제 그들이 살길은 묵은 땅을 갈아 정의의 씨를 뿌려 사랑의 열매를 거두는 것뿐입니다. 하나님은 불의한 자가 아닌 순종하는 자에게 의를 비같이 내려주실 것입니다.

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 1-2, 8 Israel’s religiousness flourished, but their repentance was superficial and they gave thanks to Baal instead of God. Let us examine ourselves to see whether our religious rituals are used as excuses to cover our sins rather than used to turn us away from them.

이스라엘 종교는 번성했지만 회개는 형식적이었고, 하나님께 바쳐야 할 감사를 바알에게 바쳤습니다. 우리 역시 번잡한 종교의식으로 죄를 감출 뿐 죄에서 돌아서지 못하는 것은 아닌지 돌아봅시다.

Prayer

Lord, help me to abandon the idols that lurk within my heart. Help me to move toward true repentance.
