하나님은 특별히 사랑했던 이스라엘이 선민으로서의 소명을 잊어버리고 이방인과 같은 기준으로 기뻐하는 모습을 책망하십니다.

[ 호세아 9:1 - 9:17 ] (찬송64장)

1이스라엘아 너는 이방 사람처럼 기뻐 뛰놀지 말라 네가 음행하여 네 하나님을 떠나고 각 타작 마당에서 음행의 값을 좋아하였느니라 2타작 마당이나 술틀이 그들을 기르지 못할 것이며 새 포도주도 떨어질 것이요 3그들은 여호와의 땅에 거주하지 못하며 에브라임은 애굽으로 다시 가고 앗수르에서 더러운 것을 먹을 것이니라 4그들은 여호와께 포도주를 부어 드리지 못하며 여호와께서 기뻐하시는 바도 되지 못할 것이라 그들의 제물은 애곡하는 자의 떡과 같아서 그것을 먹는 자는 더러워지나니 그들의 떡은 자기의 먹기에만 소용될 뿐이라 여호와의 집에 드릴 것이 아님이니라 5너희는 명절 날과 여호와의 절기의 날에 무엇을 하겠느냐 6보라 그들이 멸망을 피하여 갈지라도 애굽은 그들을 모으고 놉은 그들을 장사하리니 그들의 은은 귀한 것이나 찔레가 덮을 것이요 그들의 장막 안에는 가시덩굴이 퍼지리라 7형벌의 날이 이르렀고 보응의 날이 온 것을 이스라엘이 알지라 선지자가 어리석었고 신에 감동하는 자가 미쳤나니 이는 네 죄악이 많고 네 원한이 큼이니라 8에브라임은 나의 하나님과 함께 한 파수꾼이며 선지자는 모든 길에 친 새 잡는 자의 그물과 같고 그의 하나님의 전에는 원한이 있도다 9그들은 기브아의 시대와 같이 심히 부패한지라 여호와께서 그 악을 기억하시고 그 죄를 벌하시리라

 10옛적에 내가 이스라엘을 만나기를 광야에서 포도를 만남 같이 하였으며 너희 조상들을 보기를 무화과나무에서 처음 맺힌 첫 열매를 봄 같이 하였거늘 그들이 바알브올에 가서 부끄러운 우상에게 몸을 드림으로 저희가 사랑하는 우상 같이 가증하여졌도다 11에브라임의 영광이 새 같이 날아 가리니 해산하는 것이나 아이 배는 것이나 임신하는 것이 없으리라 12혹 그들이 자식을 기를지라도 내가 그 자식을 없이하여 한 사람도 남기지 아니할 것이라 내가 그들을 떠나는 때에는 그들에게 화가 미치리로다 13내가 보건대 에브라임은 아름다운 곳에 심긴 두로와 같으나 그 자식들을 살인하는 자에게로 끌어내리로다 14여호와여 그들에게 주소서 무엇을 주시려 하나이까 아이 배지 못하는 태와 젖 없는 유방을 주시옵소서

 15그들의 모든 악이 길갈에 있으므로 내가 거기에서 그들을 미워하였노라 그들의 행위가 악하므로 내 집에서 그들을 쫓아내고 다시는 사랑하지 아니하리라 그들의 지도자들은 다 반역한 자니라 16에브라임은 매를 맞아 그 뿌리가 말라 열매를 맺지 못하나니 비록 아이를 낳을지라도 내가 그 사랑하는 태의 열매를 죽이리라 17그들이 듣지 아니하므로 내 하나님이 그들을 버리시리니 그들이 여러 나라 가운데에 떠도는 자가 되리라

하나님은 어떤 분입니까?

10-17절   이스라엘은 험난한 광야에서 만난 포도와 처음 익은 무화과처럼 하나님의 마음을 시원케 하는 기쁨 그 자체였습니다. 그렇게 사랑하던 이스라엘이었기에 그들이 우상을 섬겼을 때 하나님의 슬픔은 더 컸습니다. 그것이 선지자를 통해 이스라엘에 좀 더 크고 강력한 징계를 예고하시는 이유입니다. 하나님의 관심은 언제나 자기 백성입니다. 세상이 짓는 큰 죄보다 나의 작은 죄를 더 많이, 더 깊이 아파하십니다. 나의 오늘은 하나님의 지대한 관심 속에 살아가는 하루임을 잊지 맙시다.

내게주시는교훈은무엇입니까?

1절   이스라엘은 우상에 심취하여 그 행위뿐만 아니라 사고방식까지도 이방 나라의 방식으로 물들어 버렸습니다. 우상 앞에서 행하는 음란행위가 기쁨의 이유였고 타작마당에서 풍요를 기원하는 제의가 기쁨의 근거가 되었습니다. 이에 하나님은 호세아 선지자를 통해 “이방 사람처럼 기뻐 뛰놀지 말라”고 하시며, 우상숭배를 멈추고 기쁨의 근거를 다르게 하라고 종용하십니다. 하나님 백성은 “여호와로 말미암아 기뻐하며 즐거워할지어다”(욜 2:23)라는 말씀처럼 하나님을 복의 근원으로 믿으며, 그분만을 기쁨의 이유로 삼는 사람입니다.

2-6절   이스라엘이 가나안 땅에서 누리는 모든 것은 하나님의 은혜였습니다. 하지만 이스라엘이 하나님의 은혜를 무시한 채 우상에게 나아가자, 하나님은 은혜를 거두겠다고 경고하십니다. 그러면 그들이 누리던 풍요를 잃고 가나안 땅에서 쫓겨나 과거처럼 노예 신세로 전락할 것입니다. 그들은 쫓겨난 곳에서 죽을 것이고 모든 영광도 사라질 것입니다. 하나님의 은혜를 잊고 하나님의 선물을 당연한 것으로 여기면서부터 타락이 시작됩니다. 내게는 은혜에 감사하는 마음이 있습니까?

7-9절   죄악으로 가득 찬 이스라엘 백성은 하나님의 말씀을 전하는 선지자를 어리석은 사람 취급했고, 그들 가운데 하나님의 영으로 충만한 사람을 도리어 미친 사람으로 몰아 학대했습니다. 그런 사회는 하나님의 심판을 피할 가망이 없습니다. 진리의 쓴소리를 멀리할 것이 아니라 작은 소리라도 소중히 여기며 귀 기울여야 합니다.

[ Hosea 9:1 - 9:17 ]

1Rejoice not, O Israel! Exult not like the peoples; for you have played the whore, forsaking your God. You have loved a prostitute’s wages on all threshing floors.2 Threshing floor and wine vat shall not feed them, and the new wine shall fail them.3 They shall not remain in the land of the LORD, but Ephraim shall return to Egypt, and they shall eat unclean food in Assyria.4 They shall not pour drink offerings of wine to the LORD, and their sacrifices shall not please him. It shall be like mourners’ bread to them; all who eat of it shall be defiled; for their bread shall be for their hunger only; it shall not come to the house of the LORD.5 What will you do on the day of the appointed festival, and on the day of the feast of the LORD?6 For behold, they are going away from destruction; but Egypt shall gather them; Memphis shall bury them. Nettles shall possess their precious things of silver; thorns shall be in their tents.7 The days of punishment have come; the days of recompense have come; Israel shall know it. The prophet is a fool; the man of the spirit is mad, because of your great iniquity and great hatred.8 The prophet is the watchman of Ephraim with my God; yet a fowler’s snare is on all his ways, and hatred in the house of his God.9 They have deeply corrupted themselves as in the days of Gibeah: he will remember their iniquity; he will punish their sins.10 Like grapes in the wilderness, I found Israel. Like the first fruit on the fig tree in its first season, I saw your fathers. But they came to Baal-peor and consecrated themselves to the thing of shame, and became detestable like the thing they loved.11 Ephraim’s glory shall fly away like a bird— no birth, no pregnancy, no conception!12 Even if they bring up children, I will bereave them till none is left. Woe to them when I depart from them!13 Ephraim, as I have seen, was like a young palm planted in a meadow; but Ephraim must lead his children out to slaughter.14 Give them, O LORD— what will you give? Give them a miscarrying womb and dry breasts.15 Every evil of theirs is in Gilgal; there I began to hate them. Because of the wickedness of their deeds I will drive them out of my house. I will love them no more; all their princes are rebels.16 Ephraim is stricken; their root is dried up; they shall bear no fruit. Even though they give birth, I will put their beloved children to death.17 My God will reject them because they have not listened to him; they shall be wanderers among the nations.  

Who is God like?

Thinking & Understanding

When Israel lived in the land the Lord had given them, they worshiped the Canaanite god Baal and practiced lewd religious rituals in their threshing floors. God was angry, so He sent prophets to warn Israel of the judgment that was coming if they continued in sin. But Israel mocked and rejected the prophets, labelling them as madmen (vv. 1-9). God’s judgment on Israel would be severe: just as a tree withered from the roots bears no fruit and is used for firewood, so Israel’s disobedience would result in its being taken captive by other nations and left to wander aimlessly (vv. 10-17).

이스라엘은 주님께서 주신 땅에서 살면서도 가나안의 우상인 바알을 섬기고, 타작마당에서 음란한 종교의식을 행했습니다. 이에 분노하신 하나님은 예언자들을 보내 이스라엘에게 임할 심판을 경고하셨습니다. 하지만 이스라엘은 예언자들을 미친 사람 취급하며 조롱하고 거부했습니다(1-9절). 이스라엘에 대한 하나님의 심판은 철저할 것입니다. 뿌리부터 말라 버린 나무가 열매를 맺지 못하고 땔감으로 쓰이는 것처럼, 순종하지 않은 이스라엘은 다른 나라에 포로로 끌려가 떠도는 신세가 되고 말 것입니다(10-17절).

Who is God?

V. 10 God remembered not only Israel’s sins but also His special moments with them. He remembered the moments when they had brought Him joy, describing them as finding grapes in the wilderness or seeing the first fruits of the fig tree. Imagine God’s joy when He first saw you and how happy He must have been.

이스라엘의 죄만 아니라 그들과의 특별한 만남도 기억하고 계십니다. 광야에서 포도를 만난 것처럼, 무화과나무의 첫 열매를 보는 것처럼 흐뭇했던 순간을 잊지 않으십니다. 하나님이 나를 처음 보실 때 이처럼 환호하며 행복해하셨을 것을 묵상해보십시오.

What lesson is God teaching me?

Vv. 3-6, 15-17 The people who broke the covenant and disobeyed God could no longer live in the land. Israel chose to have a “reverse” exodus and return to their former ways of slavery. Egypt would become their grave, and all the glory of the past would be gone. Let us always remember who we are so that we will not return to past sins, when all we cared about was filling our physical needs. 

언약을 깨뜨리고 불순종한 백성은 더 이상 그 땅에서 살 수 없습니다. 이스라엘은 스스로 ‘역(逆)출애굽’을 택하여 과거 노예 상태로 돌아갑니다. 그곳은 그들의 무덤이 될 것이고 과거의 모든 영광도 사라질 것입니다. 먹고 사는 문제가 전부였던 과거로 돌아가지 않도록 내가 누구인지 늘 기억합시다.

Lord, help me not to consider material things as the standard for blessings.
